Johns River Oyster

Dave Cheney first bought hatchery seed in 2007 and began selling those oysters under the name Johns River Oyster. Since that time, he has expanded operations to a 3.5 acre nursery in the Upper Damariscotta River. This company takes the extra effort, relaying oysters 22 miles away to Johns River where they attain their unique taste profile. In Johns River, Dave manages a 4 acre bottom lease and a 3 acre surface site where they harvest oysters year round from four specialized shellfish rafts. Johns River Oysters are unique because they are the only ones grown in Johns River, and they are the true taste of the ocean, which is renowned for a clean finish.
